UCI began construction of a new laboratory building and residential structures at the Steele/Burnand Anza-Borrego Desert Research Center in 2013. The “living laboratory” was established at a former country club in Borrego Springs in 2011 after philanthropist Audrey Steele Burnand made a donation to UCI. The facility supports field research by biologists, astronomers, anthropologists and others in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. It’s the largest site in the UC Natural Reserve System.
