I came to UCI from a small school in Central California. I was nervous to leave home but was drawn to the campus because of the opportunities offered to drama majors like myself by the Claire Trevor School of the Arts, as well as the personalized support offered by the Campuswide Honors Program.
My first week on campus was an emotional roller coaster. By the Sunday after Welcome Week, I was having serious doubts about whether or not I should remain at UCI. That all changed when I attended the annual CHP fall bonfire. It was at that event, basking in the glow of the fire and breathing in the salty smell of the beach, that I made my first UCI friends. I knew that I was home. Through engaging honors course work, living in honors housing, taking on CHP leadership roles and completing my honors thesis, I became part of a thriving social and academic community.
Six years after graduating, I was lucky enough to realize my dream and return to the Campuswide Honors Program as an academic adviser. As the program celebrates its 26th year, it is now my privilege to welcome UCI’s best and brightest students to the campus with the hope of providing them a home away from home.
